The Jane Fraser name has ten novels published under it, and eighteen novels under her own name. It also stayed on New York Times bestseller lists for months, as did the follow up, “September”, another popular novel that she wrote.īesides writing under her real name, she also published some stories under the pen name Jane Fraser. Her breakthrough in the writing game would not come until the late eighties, when she released her twenty-third novel “The Shell Seekers”, a novel that sold over five million copies around the world. Two years after she retired from writing in the year 2000, she was made an officer of the Order of the British Empire.įor Pilcher, writing helped her escape from her daily life, and that it saved her marriage. She is the mother of Robin Pilcher, who is also an author. She moved, with her husband, early on in their marriage and still lives there today. Her writing style captures the essence of the surroundings, but I think her skill is in her characters, and their relationships.Rosamunde Pilcher is a famous author of romance novels who was born Rosamunde Scott on Septemin Lelant, Cornwall (which is located in the United Kingdom). Pilcher has written many novels, some best sellers, and most or all set in England or Scotland, I think. There is love, happiness, sadness, and a myriad of human feelings and emotions, all mixed with simple, mundane activities. Questions arise throughout the novel: why did Pandora, Archie's sister, leave so many years ago and never return? Is Edie's cousin Lottie really crazy, is she dangerous, and what secrets does she harbor? What happened to Archie during the war? But all are resolved, in a satisfactory way. All of the characters come together for Vi's 78th birthday, and for a big, fancy, house party and dance at a minor character's home. I would add that another character is Scotland. While meeting the many characters: Noel, Alexa, Archie, Isobel, Edie, Henry, Edmund, Virginia (and more!), you soon learn they are all connected to the central character, elderly Violet Aird (Vi).
I had a little trouble getting started, but once I did, I couldn't really put it down.
